Will Cowes Week 2011 actually happen? With no keynote sponsor for the third year in a row how much money have Cowes Combined Clubs got left? Well as they have numerous full time staff to pay for I guess the answer may sadly be "Not that much longer". It seems incredulous that even in this economic climate that no major sponsor has been found. Cowes week 2011 looks like being the third with no major sponsor since Skandia pulled out. But you have to remember Skandia gave Cowes Combined Clubs a full years notice that they were pulling out. So that effectively makes it four years without a major sponsor being found. Of note is the Skandia still sponsor Geelong week in Australia, which is the Southern Hemispheres version of Cowes Week.
The highlight of the week for many who have been sailing or not is the huge fireworks display on Friday night which last for around half an hour and is considered to be one of the finest Worldwide. However at a cost of £50,000 and there being no major sponsor it has only gone ahead the past two years thanks to an anonymous donor. My guess is that this cannot continue and without the fireworks on Friday night will turn into a commercial disaster with many shops and restaurants requiring this weeks trade to carry them through the quiet Winter months. Without Cowes week many shops. bars and restaurants will struggle to survive in this current economic climate.
Is this me being short sighted? But if the Fireworks do not occur this year the towns of Easy and West Cowes will lose out on the estimated 200,000 plus people that come to view the Fireworks of the Friday night? This would be a massive loss of trade. Last year alone many crew houses were empty for the first time in more years than people can remember
This event needs a major sponsor and it needs one urgently or this World class event is in danger of losing its World class status. If any outsider I looked at this as a business, in the words of Lord Sugar on the TV show the apprentice "You are fired!", and maybe those words might yet be used?
Enough of the negative, I love Cowes week and all that goes with it, and really hope that it can be built back up into the event it once was, but it needs sorting quickly to avoid becoming a non-event.

Guide to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show
The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) is the largest showcase of mega yachts in the world in the yachting capital of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA. Most visitors remember the floating docks at Bahia Mar which are lined with stern in mega yachts with "appointment only" signs and the bustling crowds. Here are 10 tips to maximize your boat show experience.
Book hotel and rental cars at least two weeks in advance. The support venues fill up quickly.
Fly in to the Fort Lauderdale airport. It is 5 minutes from the hotels and boat show.
Get your rental car at the airport. Then you can drop the car off when you leave.
Book a luxury hotel on the Fort Lauderdale beach off A1A or...
Book a low cost hotel off SR-84 or on SE 17th east of US1.
Pay more and go Thursday for the red carpet opening for special offerings and smaller crowds.
Park at designated spots and take a shuttle or better yet a water taxi to the show. Parking is expensive and traffic terrible near the show off of A1A.
Check for free parking and buses from local vendors to the show, ex. Bass Pro Shop in Dania.
Purchase and print tickets online for a discount. Check ads for other ticket discounts from local vendors.

Go on Monday for the best prices as vendors sell out and close up early.
The show is 95% power oriented with less than 10 sailboats. Along with the yachts are tents at Bahia Mar that showcase electronics, tenders, and mechanical equipment. Outside are booths with fishing poles, clothing, and refreshments. Further south is Pier 66 which harbors the brokerage boat section. This section is free to enter and has a diverse mix of smaller yachts and sailboats. West of the causeway bridge is the Convention Center which has a large indoor area for selling gear and small boats.
Sea Eagle 330 Pros and Cons
Some of my favourite inflatable kayaks are the Sea Eagle kayaks. They have several models to choose from each with their own unique features and price points. One of their most popular models is the Sea Eagle 330.
The 330 is an affordable sport inflatable kayak that is extremely versatile and can handle many different types of water. Below are some of the pros and cons of the Sea Eagle 330.
Pros
very stable and excellent for beginner kayakers
light weight and easy to lift and transport
compact and light enough to be able to take on an airplane
comfortable, especially with the deluxe seats
designed for two people but seats can easily be adjusted to paddle solo as well
has a high load capacity of 500 pounds
2 skegs that help with tracking
versatile enough to be able to be paddled in mild whitewater or flatwater
very affordable
quick and easy set-up - it only takes five minutes
comes with a three year warranty
Cons
tracking could be better even with the two skegs attached
can get blown by wind if you are paddling in bad weather
there are no tie down ropes for cargo
although versatile it is not specialized so will only give a decent performance as opposed to a great performance
can be a bit crowded for two people (however they do have a longer version available - the Sea Eagle 370)
All in all there are far more positives than negatives with this kayak and it is extremely well suited for the beginner to novice kayaker. The material is strong and durable and when inflated the 330 is very rigid. It comes with two paddles, a foot pump, 2 kayak seats, a storage bag as well as a standard repair kit.
The Sea Eagle 330 and the larger version the Sea Eagle 370 have been extremely popular with recreational kayakers that want an inflatable boat that is easy to transport and store in small spaces. It is perfect for kids, dogs, camping, RV's and summer fun!
This inflatable kayak may not be top of the line but you won't find another model that gives you as much as this one does for such a low price. This kayak offers an affordable and convenient way to get out and enjoy the water.
Boat Transportation
What do you do when you want to spend the summer in the med, the fall in northeast US coast, and the winter in the Caribbean? Should you try sailing your yacht on its own bottom across the Atlantic or should you call your local boat moving company? What are the pro's and con's to using boat transportation companies to relocate your boat rather than hauling it yourself on land or water? Are there many different options as to how the process occurs?
When choosing the right boat shipping company, you have to consider how long the company has been in business, their specific ratings, and the types of insurance they carry.
The Pro's to choosing a boat transportation company to transit your vehicle instead of doing it yourself include safety and peace of mind. They provide safe shipment for your boat. Transporting your boat by yourself along highways and waterways increases your risk of damaging the bottom, as well as, the engine. These damages can often times may be severe, and you will have to cover the cost of the repairs. You should also consider the wear and tear on your boat and engine even if the trip goes exactly as planned. Using a ship moving company will give you the peace of mind that your boat is well protected during transport and will arrive to your new destination without any wear and tear.

The Con's to choosing a boat transportation company to transport your vessel instead of doing it yourself would be the anticipated anxieties of having someone maneuver your pricy vessel. No problem! It is recommended that you take pictures of your ship before you have it moved. Also, your relocation company of choice will do the same. Your boat will also be fully insured during hauling relieving you of any potential risks. Companies specializing in ship relocation usually offer both their services as well as insurance coverage at a reasonable prices.
There are many different methods of vessel hauling including Roll on / Roll off, Lift on / Lift off, as well as deck cargo and inland transportation. With so many different methods, the company will find the perfect way to safely ship your boat to your new destination.
Essentials for Protecting Your Boat's Value
Owning a boat is always a great thing for most enthusiasts of boating and fishing. However, one of the biggest issues these folks face regularly is how they can continuously protect their boats' value. This is very important, as these things are investments that you can get a lot out of sooner or later, so keeping it valuable is a must.
So, how do you keep your boat's high value? A good answer to this query is to keep in mind a couple of things to help you maintain your boat in top shape. Some examples of these things are the following:
1. Get an alarm system
If you own a yacht or any big boat, you can easily get an alarm system to protect it from thieves and vandals. This way, you can be quickly notified in case anything happens to your beloved water vehicle.
2. Use a quality boat cover

A boat cover can be one of the best things that you can use in your boat in terms of protecting it as much as you can for a very low price. These things are also easily available off and online, so you can have a good number of options when shopping for such products.
3. Be well informed when transporting or storing your boat
Most damages on boats can happen during transport or storing of your boat. Depending on how careful you are when handling such activities, you can easily scratch or dent it if it slipped or bumped anything. This is why you should never be too hasty when engaged in this task, as any mistake can really damage the value of your boat as well.
4. Have it insured
Having your boat insured is one of the essentials that you should never say "pass" to. It will help you better secure your relationship with your boat, and protect you as well in the process. Most insured boats are also better taken care of, as anything that's too damaged may not qualify for a policy.

5. Maintenance
This is probably the most important of all the essential tips when trying to keep your boat's high value. Again, a well maintained and cared for boat will definitely show signs of proper preservation, making it even more special. Sure, you may have already taken it out a hundred of times, but if you really did your best in taking good care of it, you can be sure that you'll get the most out them in return.
6. Store it properly
If you're thinking of putting your boat away temporarily or permanently for some reason, you should still keep in mind that not doing this properly can lower the value of the item. Even if you're not really sure what to do with it next, it's important that you store it properly so it won't get damaged or fall in poor condition just after a short while. These things can quickly lower the value of your vehicle, which is not an attractive thing if you're looking forward to selling or profiting from it later on.
If you want to keep your boat in a good shape, the most important thing that you need to keep in mind is to take good care of it. Just like other items that you're fond of, these things need your attention to maintain good shape. Doing it regularly wouldn't even be too much of a task, as maintaining is still a lot easier than repairing, right?
The Best Inflatable Boat for You
Purchasing an inflatable boat can be a wise investment for people who want to own a boat that is easy to store and transport. An boat has many advantages over traditional boats. They are versatile, durable and great for river floating or fishing and hunting. What is better, boat is often affordable. Then what is the best boat for you?
There are a lot of different types of boats which are working in different circumstances. Selecting an inflatable craft for fishing or hunting is a smart choice for everyone who lacks the space to store a rigid traditional craft. There are many choices ranging from inexpensive plastic ones to completely equipped models that can last for a lifetime of usage. The best boat is the one that will be often used, and it is especially stable enough for fishing and hunting. And it can be set up quickly and is easier transportable. If the inflatable boat is used for fishing or hunting, you may take sharp tools like knife or hooks with you. Therefore, when choosing inflatable boat, you must choose ones that are tough enough for those tasks. Only strong inflatable boat can secure your safety.

Another significant consideration for clients is to choose the means by which the boat will be powered. If the boat is to be powered by oars or paddles, then you must make sure that the boat includes oarlocks and that the design is easy for human power. If the boat is to be powered by the engine, either an outboard gasoline engine or an electric motor, it will be necessary to find an boat that is equipped with a transom to mount the motor. The boat should be large enough to hold the expected number of people on board. It shall not be too crowded. Because both fishing and hunting ask for a fair amount of space for every to move freely. It may be dangerous if it is too crowded.
There is a piece of good news to tell you. Now,boat's quality can compete with the best fiberglass or aluminum boat. And with the competing edge in price and convenience, inflatable boat will be your first choice for any outdoor floating activities. Add fun to your outdoor activities with high-quality boat, inflatable kayak, or inflatable craft made by Y&G. Remember we provide life jacket too.
